Consciously Rebuilding: Just Health Care

On July 30, 2008 (Happy Birthday Bradley!!!), I attended a faculty induction of Dr. Di McIntyre into the UCT School of Public Health and Family Medicine--Health Economics Division. During the induction speech, Dr. McIntyre highlighted the direction of health care and health systems in South Africa and the need for rights, Private-sector responsibility, infrastructure capacity for the public-sector, prevention, education, and more support for the small minority who contributes funds for health insurance--a pool that benefits the entire system of users.

The Conscious Mission

Consciously Rebuilding provides a community development service to addresses the health, social, and environmental dynamics of post-Katrina New Orleans through education and experiential learning. We promote conscious incremental lifestyle changes that mature into holistic individual, community, and environmental health. We educate marginalized populations that have been traditionally untapped by the “Green” Movement by translating the principles of “green” into priorities of financial capacity and health.

Who We Are

After earning their Masters in Public Health from Tulane SPH, Yasmin Bowers and Andrea Floyd teamed up to rebuild New Orleans. Consciously Rebuilding was created to provide services that address environmental, social, economical and infrastructural elements of building and rebuilding in a post-disaster region.

In the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, our experiences in a post-disaster region exposed the parallelism of environmental, social, and economic issues shared by other regions.

The communities we hope to serve starts with you. We will help communities that do not have a voice but a vision. This burgeoning vision will flourish through collaborative efforts and our passion for change.
