Central City Health Coalition Health Fair Jan. 23 12-4pm

Sunday, January 25, 2009

On January 23, 2009, Consciously Rebuilding tabled at the Central City Health Coalition Health Fair. It was so nice to have a table and leave the stress of organizing on someone else :) Natalie did a wonderful job.

I must say that although this is not a challenge or competition, Consciously Rebuilding totally killed it. We were one of the most popular tables (following the free flu shots) and we got completely wiped out of stuff. I returned home with 1 water bottle. I will have the results in a later post, but over 50 people visited the table and commited to an initial action to be healthy. This goes to show you that freebies + friendliness = interested bodies. Once I reeled them in, they received a quick intro of Consciously Rebuilding and the importance of green and healthy living. I told everyone that all of our goodies are "free"....however I asked that they review the tipsheet on energy, water, air quality, and fitness and write down a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Fitness was extremely popylar, followed by nutrition. After each person signed-up, I thanked them for their efforts and they were all caught offguard, or surprised, but genuinely appreciative to return the thanks. Sometimes a simple, "Thank you" makes a huge difference in motivating someone.

Here are the pics and our next event is at Earth Fest at the Audubon Zoo on March 21-22, 2009.

Yes we can!!!!!

I just wanted to post a pic of me in DC on the inauguration. This trip was surreal and will always have a place in my heart. I am so excited about the future and what Consciously Rebuilding will achieve in 2009. It's time.

Alumni Power :)

So my alma mater, Clark University, reached out to me to because they heard about Consciously Rebuilding and our passion for challenging convention (Clark's mantra). I'm proud to be a Clarkie and I appreciate the shout-outs and support. I will defintely invest back in a school that invested so much in me. This is just a snippet, but when I receive the hard copy I will scan it.

Peace,

Yasmin

Publicity Time!!!!

It is defintely true that when you do good, you attract good. I am so blessed to be a part of Consciously Rebuilding and be able to inspire and motivate others through my journey of social change. Christopher Quinn sought out me and Consciously Rebuilding to feature ATLiens who are now NOLAns. More specifically, he wanted to get down to the root of why people flock to New Orleans to volunteer their time to rebuild a City. Here is a snippet.

Meeting Allan Houston!!!!!

We're back and on the upswing in 09. I hope everyone had a great holiday. On last Sunday (1/11/09) I had the opportunity to have a meet-and-greet with Mr. Houston. He gave me a lot of ideas on my business plan and our product development. For those who don't know, I am enrolled in the Allan Houston Business Education and Development Program to think of ways we can develop a social entrepreneurship arm to raise funds for Consciously Rebuilding's community outreach.
